One day in Hania...

The old minaret adjacent to St Nikolaos church is a perfect reminder of the way the East met the West in the town I made my home, Chania, Crete, Greece. The photographs I post all help to tell a part of a longer story that focuses on the town and its citizens, whether they are living there now, or have made their home in other parts of the world. As a newer resident, by writing about the town in this way, I am trying to put some order into the chaos that I seem to be confronted with.

Autumn is nearing in Hania. The weather has definitely cooled down, although there could be anotehr heatwave coming at any time in the near future.

This bicycle hasn't been used in a while. It's probably been left here (at MAICh, a graduate school for agriculture students in Hania) by a former student, to be used by a new student next year. All the leaves will start going red soon, which will show up the autumn flavour of the season really well.

Ha, funny bike. Lucky you, getting cooler.
I think our thermometer got stuck at 31 for the entire summer. But today I bought a bag of milk and it was stamped September 3, YAY! August will really end.

Cycling is supposed to be friendly to the environment, so I suppose the colour fits.

You know Students around California..say Santa Barbara University...do exactly this...they leave their bikes for others to use...I think it's such a nice thing to do

Great! I photographed a bike a while back festooned with plastic roses but a real plant growing through a bike is wayyyyy better. All your photos are so lovely. I am hoping to visit Chania to stay at the monastery at Chrysopigi and your blog makes me even more determined.
