The old minaret adjacent to St Nikolaos church is a perfect reminder of the way the East met the West in the town I made my home, Chania, Crete, Greece. The photographs I post all help to tell a part of a longer story that focuses on the town and its citizens, whether they are living there now, or have made their home in other parts of the world. As a newer resident, by writing about the town in this way, I am trying to put some order into the chaos that I seem to be confronted with.
Maybe someone left this job and that's why someone else need to do the job. These jobs are low paid and with destructive work hours.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this job is anyone's dream job.
You certainly would. But A is probably right.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the minimum wage in Greece?
ReplyDeleteit has been said that the minimum wage is 700 euro, but i think that this is gross, so take off 150 and you are left with 550 euro in the hand. you simply cannot live off that as an independent person, which is why greeks are so dependent on the older generation, their land, thier fruit trees, etc
ReplyDeleteHello, this is my first time here on your blog. I also live on an island in the middle of the mediterranean. I live in Malta (very tiny island). I also have two blogs, one about Malta and the other about me, my growing family and our daily lifes, come visit if you have some extra time. Good day !!
ReplyDeleteAt least the shop must be going well if it needs assistants.
ReplyDeletePS thank you for the comment - I'll look out for one next time.
Happy to hear you are feeling better. :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your night view from your window. That is certainly a very sad story about the neighborhood friend. I'm sure everyone will miss him, as he was obviously a very kind and giving person.
Some job is better than no job!
ReplyDeleteYou can't live on minimum wage in England either, which is why people live in horrible houseshares, 7 people sharing 1 bathroom etc. But staying at home with your parents is still very rare.
ReplyDeleteThank God you're OK at last! What a Winter, hm?
ReplyDeleteI took a photo of the full moon too but yours is great! Probably we were doing the same thing at the same time!
As for the assistant, can they wait for me?
Most unusual for the job not be taken already.Makes a person wonder why not.
ReplyDeleteMe again - I must admit I had you in mind when I posted it. Having mentioned Rodos in the previous post, I thought it also proper to mention Crete!
ReplyDeleteHi Maria!
ReplyDeleteThere is always hope, even in the darkest times...
