The old minaret adjacent to St Nikolaos church is a perfect reminder of the way the East met the West in the town I made my home, Chania, Crete, Greece. The photographs I post all help to tell a part of a longer story that focuses on the town and its citizens, whether they are living there now, or have made their home in other parts of the world. As a newer resident, by writing about the town in this way, I am trying to put some order into the chaos that I seem to be confronted with.

SkyWatch Friday: lunar eclipse
Here's what I saw of the lunar eclipse that occurred on the Saturday, the 16th of August, from Hania, Crete, Greece. I could see a shadow of the sun below the moon (second photo) which did not come out too well in the second photo. The first photo shows a zoom-in on the eclipse.

Nice one for SWF! In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then beleive them to be true. Mine's up too hope you can drop by... Happy SWF!

ReplyDeleteI am so pleased that you were able to see the lunar eclipse-we were not so fortunate here in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteWatching the moon rise from our balcony is a true bonus of the Cretan summers. It is always a rather humbling experience and helps one keep things in perspective.
