The old minaret adjacent to St Nikolaos church is a perfect reminder of the way the East met the West in the town I made my home, Chania, Crete, Greece. The photographs I post all help to tell a part of a longer story that focuses on the town and its citizens, whether they are living there now, or have made their home in other parts of the world. As a newer resident, by writing about the town in this way, I am trying to put some order into the chaos that I seem to be confronted with.

ABC Wednesday: Vauxhall Victor vintage vehicle
It's ABC Wednesday again, and V is for Vauxhall Victor.
This one in particular doesn't seem to have moved in a long long time. Although the car's not roadworthy, it obviously means something special to the owner, as he (I doubt it's a woman) is keeping it parked in his driveway, and doesn't seem to want to part with it. It is clearly an FB model which means it dates back to at least 1964 - that car is over 40 years old.
I think my father's first car - from what I can remember - was a Vauxhall.

V for vintage car also!
ReplyDeleteNice choices for V.
Great post for the Vintage car. To bad it just sits there.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this car. It's a beauty. I wonder if it will ever get on the road again.
ReplyDeleteπολλές φορές είμαστε τόσο δεμένοι με αντικείμενα που δύσκολα τα αποχωριζόμαστε. ή απλός αμελούμε να τα πετάξουμε
ReplyDeleteLong time since I have seen one of these. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteVery nice find!
ReplyDeleteMaybe he is retired or maybe they get older together...You know, the odd little heart problem here, tooth problem there, weak knees, shortness of breath.....rusty bonnet, sticky windows, flat tires, low battery....The HorsePower getting older.
Hi from home... I'll bet you took that photo in New Zealand somewhere? - Dave, Hamilton, NZ
ReplyDeleteArtichoke flowers always remind me of thistles but not quite the same. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about the car you posted about. Not even the name is familiar. It is like everything else in this world that is touched by language.
We say a dog barks sounds like "bow wow" What does it say in your language?
Very interesting Vintage Vehicle.
ReplyDeleteGreat old car.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a fabulous place to live.
Once upon a time Vauxhall cars were the fashion... in vehicles.
ReplyDeleteThat tire needs what we call a "puntcher-macher."
ReplyDeleteOne family in the moshav keeps a boat on a trailer in their driveway and an old dusty junker car is parked on the street in front of it. I always figured it was to prevent boat theft.
I think that this car has seen better days!

ReplyDeleteVintage...that is a good word...this poor car looks in sad shape!
ReplyDeleteI wondered where you would have artichokes growing and find a Vauxhall nearby. What a lovely place to choose to live.
ReplyDeleteMy son has a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda parked next to his house. It has not run in over 15 years, but his grandfather was the one who bought it, and maybe someday he will restore it.
Perhaps there is the same kind of feeling for the Vauxhall.
