The old minaret adjacent to St Nikolaos church is a perfect reminder of the way the East met the West in the town I made my home, Chania, Crete, Greece.
The photographs I post all help to tell a part of a longer story that focuses on the town and its citizens, whether they are living there now, or have made their home in other parts of the world. As a newer resident, by writing about the town in this way, I am trying to put some order into the chaos that I seem to be confronted with.

Bicycle lane
Hey, look, Hania's finally got itself a bicycle lane! In front of the Agora in the centre of town.
I think this is my first trip to your blog. I am in Brookville, Ohio and it is cold this morning – 13 degree Fahrenheit = -10.5555556 degree Celsius. If I were just walking past you on the street I would probably smile and nod my head. I hope you would too. LOL
Douglas the main town here has one, sadly Ramsey no. They become an unofficial walkway too. I would call this real progress in Ramsey. Maybe another 100 years.
the bicycle lane in Hania is a joke. people do use it, but they are not respected. as for the paint job, it is now almost invisible, from its over-use by cars, hence no one would know that this is a bicycle lane any longer...
Hey, congratulations. That's a big step forward.
ReplyDeleteSomething we don't have in Jerusalem.
At last!
ReplyDeleteWHAT??? Are you sure the red color does not mean "Bicycles are not allowed in this lane" ??? :-D :-D :-D
ReplyDeleteThat's great!!! It's going to take a little bit of time until everyone get's used to it though.....so be careful anyway :-D
Nice idea. A bike lane.
